Monday Made-It

Hey everyone!  I's so excited for today's Monday Made-It.  Of course, I'm hooking up with the brilliant 4th Grade Frolics!

I don't know if you noticed **totally telling on myself here** but I missed last week's Monday Made-It and I'm very sorry about that.  BUT. . . . I think I will definitely redeem myself this week!

So let's get ready to ........ you know how it goes :)

This is not new . . . . they're all over Pinterest BUT they are practical!  I'm constantly in awe of how many kids still forget to put their name on papers.  And as much as I try to check them. . . . I need two more sets of eyes.  Now that I'm working with the "big kids" they are able to find & identify (hopefully) their own papers!  I still have to apply some cutesy ribbon but it's finished for the most part.

           

This was my awesome find at Michael's this morning.  I was there buying lots of things I don't really need some very important things and I stumbled upon this.  It's a miniature chalkboard / white board easel!  I KNOW!  It's simply adorable.  I found 1 pkg of puffy-decorative thingys ~ on clearance for 99 cents ~ and stuck those bad boys on there.  How stinkin' cute is this?  Oh, and you would think I paid a fortune for this lil gem.  Nope. . . 3 bucks!  It will go on the table next to my desk.  The chalkboard will face out and I'll use the white board for reminders.

      ~Am I abnormal because this makes me happy???  Wait, don't answer that!

Mine just needs a few more finishing touches ~ cute dots and maybe a few more paper circles ~ then it will be done.  I'll show you another pic of it in my classroom.  To make mine, I did the following:

     Materials:    Canvas (any size you prefer)

                         Black acrylic paint & brush

                         Scrapbook Paper

                         Ribbons

 I basically followed all of the same steps except I printed my name using fonts.  Well, not really.  You see, I didn't want to ruin it by writing on the canvas (I don't always think my handwriting is cute) so I found some clipart fonts I liked.  Then I put the letters I'd need onto a PPT.  Then ~ this is the tricky part ~ I reversed the letters so that when I printed them they'd be backwards.  I printed them on colored paper to match the bright-color theme of my classroom.  So then I cut out the letters and flipped them right-side up to put them on my canvas.  Sounds hard & time consuming but it really wasn't.  It looked a little plain so I added the stitching effect with black marker.  Again, I'll show a finished pic from my classroom.

I f.i.n.a.l.l.y got these done!  Did you ever have something on your to-do list forever?  Well, this was mine.  I was hesitant to make them for my Kinder students but now the 5th graders will love them!  I'm going to put them in the reading area.

Made-It #5 

(Couldn't find the number 5 button.  But I was only gone 15 minutes this time!)

This is my FAVORITE one this week!

    

I was looking for comfy pillows for my reading center but they are pretty expensive.  After all the money I spent on other crafty things, I didn't want to fork out more $$$.  So I saw Walmart had these t-shirts (in MY colors) on sale for $3.00!  I originally thought I just buy travel pillows for them but then I saw they had regular sized pillows on sale too!  It was like winning the lottery. . . well not really but you get the point.  Aren't they cute?  They were SOOOO simple to make.  Took me about 30 minutes to do them all.

I should tell you I recently cleaned out my cedar chest with all of my bed linens.  I had about 10 sheet sets and 50 pillow case SETS.  I had them in the "donate" pile.  

So all I did was sew a straight line from the shoulder of the shirt to the bottom, then sewed the bottom shut.  I placed a regular pillow case on the pillow (yes, I stole from the donate pile).  You can't tell from the picture but they do match.  Then, use the "head-opening" of the t-shirt to put the pillow in.  The t-shirts were jersey material so they were pretty stretchy.  Now I can take them off to wash them too!  I had extra fabric from the crate-seats so I made some extra pillows.  Can't beat that!

2014-15 BTS Blowout S.A.L.E.!

My second product is a new one called "Master of the Multiplier."  This is a INSTANT Math Center activity.  Yup, just print-and-go!  Trust me, the kids will be begging you to play this one.....and they'll be mastering their multiplication tables (but don't tell them!)

All that you'll need for this activity is the game board (each focusing on a different multiplier), two dice and something to color with.  In the two player version, Player 1 rolls the dice, adds to get the sum & multiplies the sum by the multiplier.  Find a box with the product and color it with your color.  Then it's Player 2's turn.  Continue play until all of the boxes are colored (if all of the boxes with your product are already colored, your turn is over.)  Count how many boxes each player colored.  The player with the most boxes wins!

This next product is a must-have for me.  I want to make sure I'm addressing every standards in my teaching.  This helps me stay on track & have a visual of the CC standards I've covered or the ones I can focus on more.

August Currently!

I am hooking up today with Farley from Oh'Boy 4th Grade.  I just L.O.V.E. her currently editions each month.  She cracks me up!  So, here we go!

 

Listening ~ I'm totally obsessed with the ZBB lately.  My family is like, "Seriously. Enough already!"  We have this strange gene in my family where we can listen to something over and over an not get sick of it, lol.  Well I definitely got that gene!  Wish I got the "skinny gene" instead!

Loving ~ Okay, this is more of a love/hate.  I love seeing all the pictures popping up lately of finished, perfect classrooms.  UGH!  I also secretly hate them!  I mean, seriously, did you check out Tunstall's Teaching Tidbits yet?  I want to hug her and hurt her all at the same time!  Honestly, I just love her ability to pull a room together.  Every year she out-does the year before.  Love her!

Thinking ~ Okay, now this one is a lil bit my fault.  I stress over everything.  Really....E.V.E.R.Y.T.H.I.N.G.!  So it may have been the last week in July when I began stressing that there was only 4 weeks left of summer for me (I go back 8/19).  Yes, I know!  I spend more time stressing than enjoying!  Well, I have only 2 weeks left now so I have every single day planned out so that I make sure I accomplish something this summer!  I think I'm going to paint the laundry room tomorrow.  Color suggestions????

Wanting ~ See above!

Needing ~ I have one day scheduled as a pamper-myself kind of day.  Facial, mani/pedi, etc.  Can't wait!  I'm going to my first kick-boxing class next week too.  That should pretty much ensure that I can't walk again until school starts!

1st Day ~ YIKES!  This is my first year in this position so I'm kind of clueless.  I'm a planner.....we DON'T like clueless! We like lists and neatly planned out activities.  This should be interesting!

Master of the Multiplier

I know the students I will have this year have had some trouble learning their multiplication tables.  Some have relied too heavily {for me} on the Multiplication Chart......which gives them the answer.  Some of them can't multiply 2 x 2 without looking at the chart!

Needless to say, learning our facts is a skill I'm practicing with them from Day One.  I know I learned simply by memorizing them but times have changed.  My teaching philosophy is to make learning as fun as possible so what's a girl to do?  I created a game, of course!

The game is called, "Master of the Multiplier."  Who doesn't enjoy being the M.A.S.T.E.R.???  It's a simple, print-and-go activity.  All game boards are black-and-white and there are two game boards per page.  The only materials needed are a game board, 2 dice and something to color with.....that's it!  The product also comes with a directions-poster to put in the Math Center with the game.

Five For Friday!!!!!

It's that time of the week again........F.R.I.D.A.Y.!   It's practically my favorite word in the English language....well, at least during the school year!  Giddy-up for some fun~

Time to hook up with Doodle Bugs Teaching to bring you my "Five For Friday!"

  

                                      

At the end of last year, I noticed a teacher friend's filing cabinet all decorated.  I thought it was scrapbook paper at first but then she told me it was contact paper.  I decided to experiment and try it out myself.  Now, this is NOT the most creative example but you get the idea!  I removed the handles and made a template.  Cut, apply, and voila!  You have cute, decorated filing cabinets. I made labels that you can download for FREE.  Just click HERE to download them.  I'd appreciate any comments you would leave me :)  I am also going to try to use scrapbook paper on one to see how that turns out.  I'll keep you posted~

These were loosely based on the Subway series from KinderCraze.  You can see her set HERE.  I wanted something very specific on my classroom rules so I made these :)

 

This is obviously not a finished product, but I was able to get into my classroom one day this week.  I went in armed with a bunch of crafty supplies (paper, ribbons, etc.) to play around with.  I decided I wanted to cover my bins with a solid color.  I have some really cute denim-designed scrapbook paper.  I cut out the size and inserted but didn't have my Mod Podge with me.  I'll have that done next week.

I will not lie.  This picture makes me happy!  I had a*VERY OLD* old rolling card in my house. I think I used to use it in my bedroom to hold toiletries.  It was black and dusty when I started. {Kicking myself for not taking a before pic!}  I spray painted it purple and took it to school.  Each tray is big enough to hold a letter-size bin on a slant.  I filled that puppy up and plan to use it next to my GR table. It has a spot for everything I'll need during small group work!

[***GASP***}

Yes, this is a picture of my horrendous, hideous, laundry room......and sadly, what you're seeing is an improvement!  It is my goal to transform this room before I go back to school.  I think I'll need some help and A LOT of pinning!
